Rafting in the Grand Canyon

Honored with the 2019 Best of Cedar Rapids Award for his work as a doctor, David H. Segal, MD, spent many years of practice as a neurosurgeon before launching himself into the legal profession through studies at University of Iowa College of Law. An avid traveler, David H. Segal, MD, has particularly enjoyed hiking in the Grand Canyon and rafting on the Colorado River.

A spectacular way to view the Grand Canyon, rafting down the Colorado River involves plenty of excitement, with many stretches of whitewater rapids. Rafting trips vary in length from a single day to a week-long adventure. Those wary of dangerous waters or concerned about young children can also find opportunities in smoother sections of the river.

In order to raft through the Grand Canyon, you must obtain a permit from the National Park Service, which limits the number of visitors to the area. Permits for longer trips often have to be obtained a year in advance.
